PRESS RELEASE / THE LUCKYSWING FOUNDATION THE BLUE-COLLAR CHAMPION Golf’s Hottest Young
Professional Golfer Lucky Cruz
Lucky Cruz. Lucky, a rising star in the professional ranks, with an amateur record of four championships with an average round score of 68. As an amateur Lucky decided to play Mini-Tour events, instead of AJGA’s while preparing for college golf. Lucky was a verbal commitment to the Univ. of Houston at 14 years old. Now at 17-years-old, the born and raised Houstonian sets his sites on the PGA Tour. As an amateur Lucky’s declared titles consisted of the Faldo USA Championship, Faldo Dubai Championship (T-1), Steph Curry’s Underrated Tour Champion - Curry Cup Championship, and the Notah Begay Championship during the 2023 season, competing and dethroning Charlie and Tiger Woods from the title of National Champion. Lucky’s most notable win came on November 6, 2023, at Koasati Pines Golf Club in Kinder, LA, when he secured his first Notah Begay Championship by registering 11-under 202 over three rounds, finishing three strokes ahead of the runner-up. Lucky became the only player to have competed in every Notah Begay III Junior Golf National Championship. Lucky, who demonstrates academic excellence with a 4.0 GPA and 1300 SAT score, committed to playing at a Division I program in the Big 12 Conference in September of 2022, the same week of his 15th birthday. He was named to the Top 100 Recruits list for the Class of 2024. In 2024, Lucky competed in Q-School on the Professional Tour of Mexico, where he jumped from 27th to ninth earning his Full Status on the Professional Tour of Mexico shooting a Q-School low of 66. He bested 72 other professionals, earning full status. Lucky decommitted from the Univ. of Houston to pursue his dream as a professional on the PGA Tour, following the footsteps of Akshay Bhatia and Aldrich Potgierter. He enrolled online at Stanford and made his professional tour debut at the Bajia Open in Leon, Mexico where Lucky made his first cut shooting 2 Under par, gaining an official world golf ranking. Lucky has made 1 for 4 on cuts so far and is looking to make an impact on the World stage heading to final stage Q-School on the Sunshine Tour in South Africa. He is campaigning to be selected via sponsor’s exemption to make his professional tour debut on the PGA at the Houston Open 2025. Lucky is on the exemption list along with other players. Lucky campaigns to have his professional tour debut on the very course he grew up playing from the age of five. We ask you too. Please help The LuckySwing Foundation and our bid to support Lucky Cruz as he endeavors to play and make his PGA debut in his hometown of Houston, Texas. Golf sometimes has an immensely powerful way and opportunity to tell and promote stories of overcoming challenges and goals that will sometimes test our faith. We are thankful that we have opportunities like these to highlight such great inspirational stories to our community. The work Lucky has done through his foundation by providing other kids with the ability to have golf equipment, pay for rounds of golf at tournaments, all the while needing support himself, demonstrates the selflessness of that individual, and leadership by example, in the game of golf. To Texas Children’s Hospital, Astros Golf Foundation, PGA Tour, and Mr. Crane: Lucky Cruz is everything we wish our youth could aspire to be, to overcome the challenges of a sibling with Autism, the treatment and financial strain since Covid-19’s economy. He has overcome those who say, “Your hair is not right, you are not the right look, or You just don’t fit in here.” He has overcome all the challenges of wanting to belong and having a place in the golf community, despite all these challenges. Lucky is still here making his own way. These exemptions occur regularly, including players like Lucky, Blades Brown, Miles Russel, Evan Pena, and others who have received sponsor’s exemptions and opportunities to enter professional golf. Lucky is the only 17 yr old Professional Golfer with status on a Professional Tour earned via Q-School 2024. Lucky is a Houstonian; Lucky is a municipal kid. Lucky has proven to succeed over adversity repeatedly. We pray that you give this young man a chance to shine in the city that allowed him the tools to be great. From Drive, Chip and Putt to National Champion to Youngest Touring Professional with Status. Lucky’s story is Houston’s story in a game looking for its next superstars. Lucky is very much. “FOR THE CITY”.
